It's fun, a little mod, a little funky even (thanks to the orange!). It was a local thrift store purchase, and I knew the minute that I saw it that I was going to paint a chevron design on it. I had been hoping for a coffee table with a very plain surface so that I could paint a design on it. This was perfect!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-n--v8AXpNYA/T3sGW6gWgCI/AAAAAAAAFQM/aS_rl8MZ37U/s1600/Open+House+030.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-n--v8AXpNYA/T3sGW6gWgCI/AAAAAAAAFQM/aS_rl8MZ37U/s320/Open+House+030.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> Here are two of my little helpers cleaning the table so that I can get to work!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zj27yeHotHg/T3sGuJii8ZI/AAAAAAAAFQU/34nx1PTaK20/s1600/Open+House+032.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zj27yeHotHg/T3sGuJii8ZI/AAAAAAAAFQU/34nx1PTaK20/s320/Open+House+032.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">AT first I couldn't figure out the dimensions of the zig zag. Here's a hint: DON'T ask your husband! :) HE made it so complicated, but I just told him "thank you" and smiled politely because he was working so hard to come up with a formula for my orange and white coffee table! HE had to go into work, then even called on his way in and said, "Okay, I've got it. Measure the blah, blah, blah" He lost me at "measure". Ha!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I ended up taking a piece of poster paper and cut it the same width as the coffee table. Then i folded the poster paper in half and placed it on my coffee table. This would be the very middle zig zag point. Then I folded the poster board in half again, and these folds became the other two zig zag points (so one in the middle, one to the left of the middle, one to the right of the middle). I used 2 inch wide blue painters tape and therefore made the zig -zags 2 inches wide. Easy. I didn't even have to make a pattern!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a4JnB3bwVS8/T3sJCShvQaI/AAAAAAAAFQc/O4Wtebc7SX8/s1600/Open+House+127.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a4JnB3bwVS8/T3sJCShvQaI/AAAAAAAAFQc/O4Wtebc7SX8/s320/Open+House+127.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

The room is simply a very small foyer that needed a little more personality. I painted the walls in a creamy white, then used a Hobby Lobby stencil and orange paint to make the design on the wall. It was cute enough.<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hyA08KZiyk0/T2oticM62aI/AAAAAAAAFJU/KLXEnpUbGWA/s1600/more+o+and+b+025.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img aea="true" border="0" height="244" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hyA08KZiyk0/T2oticM62aI/AAAAAAAAFJU/KLXEnpUbGWA/s320/more+o+and+b+025.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="border: currentColor; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cDYy5xrhjt4/T2otw-ONVvI/AAAAAAAAFJc/SzeaMpazsn4/s1600/open+house+004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img aea="true" border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cDYy5xrhjt4/T2otw-ONVvI/AAAAAAAAFJc/SzeaMpazsn4/s320/open+house+004.JPG" width="171" /></a>But I still felt like it needed a little something else. I bought a gold paint pen and made small gold circles at each "point" where the individual designs met. It was a little too slow for me and didn't have quite the impact that I had hoped it would. Somewhere along the way I had the idea to use gold thumbtacks instead! The Dollar Tree sells 300 tacks for a dollar and I bought 4 packs. That's a lot of thumb tacks! And the numbness in my thumb will attest to that! </div><div style="border: currentColor; clear: both; text-align: center;">It's such a fun and unexpected "bling"! I love that I did this right when you walk into the house. It sends a message, loud and clear, that this is going to be a FUN house!</div><br />

We live right around the corner from "orange and Blue", so when a For Sale sign went in the yard of the house, I was a little curious. But the price tag made me very curious! It was a very good deal. Besides the fact that it still had no central air and one non-functioning bathroom, the rest of the work that would needed to be done to the house would mainly be cosmetic. <br />
<br />
It really wasn't until the seller accepted our offer and we were well into the buying process that I had the idea to rent the house out for game day weekends, graduations, etc. I liked the idea of having a little "home away from home" that we could use for Bunko, bible studies, coffee, etc. And the idea of renting to college students for a year at a time did not appeal to me! So we decided to furnish it and rent it out fully furnished. I opened a business account and then the real fun began! Because I needed to furnish and decorate this house on a pretty tight budget, my motto was "yard, sale, thrift store, or free." It's amazing how creative you can be when you're trying to stick to a budget. Except for the sofa and beds (mattresses), everything was either purchased at a yard sale, purchased from a thrift store, pulled from my attic, or pulled off the side of the road!<br />
<br />
<br />
So now it's time for the offcial house tour, with side-bits of information along the way! Enjoy!<br />
<br />
<br />
This is the foyer. I love the arch doorway, and I love that it's right there as soon as you walk in the front door!<br />
I stenciled the foyer with a cute stencil that I purchased from Hobby Lobby. As the decor of the house began to emerge, I decided to add a little bling to the stencil and used gold thumb tacks from the dollar tree at each crosspoint.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hyA08KZiyk0/T2oticM62aI/AAAAAAAAFJU/KLXEnpUbGWA/s1600/more+o+and+b+025.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="244" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hyA08KZiyk0/T2oticM62aI/AAAAAAAAFJU/KLXEnpUbGWA/s320/more+o+and+b+025.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> I think I pushed about 1200 tacks into the wall. I'm not sure I'll ever regain full feeling in my thumb!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QgWNvMhvMTw/T2ot6NMb-WI/AAAAAAAAFJk/MXOZ59LKvRg/s1600/open+house+005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="205" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QgWNvMhvMTw/T2ot6NMb-WI/AAAAAAAAFJk/MXOZ59LKvRg/s320/open+house+005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cDYy5xrhjt4/T2otw-ONVvI/AAAAAAAAFJc/SzeaMpazsn4/s1600/open+house+004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cDYy5xrhjt4/T2otw-ONVvI/AAAAAAAAFJc/SzeaMpazsn4/s320/open+house+004.JPG" width="171" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The picture below is a picture of the living room, just beyond the foyer. The pillow on the sofa was one of my first purchases. At $105, I'd definitely consider it a splurge for this house. But because I had saved so much by shopping at yard sales and thrift stores, I justified the splurge. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fcxR6XC786I/T2otV5yZtZI/AAAAAAAAFJM/BVTTK3fikEo/s1600/Open+House+137.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fcxR6XC786I/T2otV5yZtZI/AAAAAAAAFJM/BVTTK3fikEo/s320/Open+House+137.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nUyzwwMuL30/T2pENQuwMBI/AAAAAAAAFLM/z5PPP6nPYBg/s1600/open+house+008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="222" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nUyzwwMuL30/T2pENQuwMBI/AAAAAAAAFLM/z5PPP6nPYBg/s320/open+house+008.JPG" width="320" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VmFCEDJ2Ctk/T2pEt07JdBI/AAAAAAAAFLU/ZsAXWsZwZPA/s1600/open+house+007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VmFCEDJ2Ctk/T2pEt07JdBI/AAAAAAAAFLU/ZsAXWsZwZPA/s320/open+house+007.JPG" width="320" /></a>The pillow is actually animal hide and it is SO COOL! LOVE this pillow! Purchased it at <a href="http://www.moxii.com/">Moxii</a> in Auburn. You must check them out! The art above the sofa was another DIY project. You can read more about it<a href="http://www.latdah.blogspot.com/2012/02/diy-ez-mod-art.html"> HERE</a>. </div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lKE3cW9FuSk/T2pD7mmaKjI/AAAAAAAAFLE/xdVV0BijzX0/s1600/o+and+b+078.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lKE3cW9FuSk/T2pD7mmaKjI/AAAAAAAAFLE/xdVV0BijzX0/s320/o+and+b+078.JPG" width="320" /></a>The coffee table was a quick and easy DIY project. I knew I wanted a chevron pattern somewhere in the house, so when I found a coffee table with a very plain and flat surface, I snatched it up! Not only did I love the flat surface, but I also loved the brass caps on the legs.</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The chair below was a $40 purchase at the thrift store. It's kind of funny because I really did not want to pay for $40 for this chair. My original plan was to paint it a high-gloss aqua, but when I brought it home, my husband REALLY liked it and thought it would be a mistake to paint it. It eventually grew me and I decided not to paint it. The fabric on the chair really helps add a certain flair to the whole room. You can't tell from the pictures, but the brown on the fabric is velvet. So glad that I decided to splurge on the $40 chair!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0lLYA80h13Y/T2pFjfJk3NI/AAAAAAAAFLk/q5j-mj2UPoA/s1600/open+house+012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0lLYA80h13Y/T2pFjfJk3NI/AAAAAAAAFLk/q5j-mj2UPoA/s320/open+house+012.JPG" width="205" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tUNp6Z2EkEE/T2pFQQuxRXI/AAAAAAAAFLc/tk1MmPX3P-k/s1600/open+house+011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tUNp6Z2EkEE/T2pFQQuxRXI/AAAAAAAAFLc/tk1MmPX3P-k/s320/open+house+011.JPG" width="214" /></a></div><br />
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The bar cart was a side-of-the -road save! It was just the metal part, but I had Home Depot cut some plywood for me and I had the glass shop cut a $10 glass piece for me that I put on the top shelf only. I cut some hounds tooth fabric and placed it on the plywood pieces. The lamp was from the Goodwill, and the lamp shade was also a DIY. I used a paper napkin from Hobby Lobby and mod-podged it all the way around the shade. I think I used three napkins, and I had to cut and piece them together so that the design would match up, but it was a really quick, easy, and inexpensive project with huge impact. This is the second time that I've used a napkin and Mod-Podge to cover a lamp shade. If you'd like a tutorial, click <a href="http://www.latdah.blogspot.com/2010/03/modge-podge-with-napkins.html">HERE</a>.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nvigdywhdCI/T2p8HJCQ6BI/AAAAAAAAFPk/dUEzN_9uOGk/s1600/open+house+009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nvigdywhdCI/T2p8HJCQ6BI/AAAAAAAAFPk/dUEzN_9uOGk/s320/open+house+009.JPG" width="179" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> The little table below was a $3.00 thrift store purchase that I quickly spray painted aqua. It was the perfect size and the perfect price! The print right above it was a freebie from <a href="http://danielleoakeyinteriors.blogspot.com/2011/08/winner-chair-printables.html">Danielle Oakey</a>. The mirrored frame was a $2.00 purchase from a yard sale.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DPb_sHZwySg/T2p-fWCPulI/AAAAAAAAFPs/Dm0e20JhRoQ/s1600/open+house+014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DPb_sHZwySg/T2p-fWCPulI/AAAAAAAAFPs/Dm0e20JhRoQ/s320/open+house+014.JPG" width="214" /></a>The book shelf was one that I already had. It was actually painted cow print from my son's barn-themed room 10 years ago. I found some great looking aqua crocodile wrapping paper at TJMaxx. I purchased a large piece of foam board from Hobby Lobby, cut it the size of the back of my book shelf, sprayed it with adhesive and adhered the wrapping paper to the foam board. I stapled the foam board to the back of the bookshelf and BAM! Prest-O Change-O! The art above the bookshelf was also a free DIY project that you can read about<a href="http://www.latdah.blogspot.com/2012/01/cheap-and-easy-art.html"> HERE</a>.<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-J7KjVl44zVw/T2pIbcouu4I/AAAAAAAAFMM/-lw9qGog6WE/s1600/open+house+034.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-J7KjVl44zVw/T2pIbcouu4I/AAAAAAAAFMM/-lw9qGog6WE/s320/open+house+034.JPG" width="258" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The TV console was a $15 purchase that I snatched up REALLY QUICKLY from the Salvation Army. It was exactly what I had in mind, and for $15, it was even better than what I had in mind. You won't believe the BEFORE pics. Click <a href="http://www.latdah.blogspot.com/2012/01/my-15-score.html">HERE</a> to see its transformation. The mirrors were from TJMaxx. The dog was $7.00 from Ross. The vases were Target clearance (MAJOR clearance), and the white lacquered croc box was from Ross. The chairs were from the thrift store. I spray painted them gold and reupholstered the seats.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KVVY01ZsEok/T2pHpRggn8I/AAAAAAAAFME/Ewtpzonh-Is/s1600/open+house+033.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="286" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KVVY01ZsEok/T2pHpRggn8I/AAAAAAAAFME/Ewtpzonh-Is/s320/open+house+033.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> The orange dining room is right next to the living room. It connects to the kitchen and to the screened-in porch (which is actually on the front of the house). I purchased the window treatments from the thrift store for $25.oo. To bring in the aqua, I added the aqua grosgrain ribbon to the window treatments and spray painted the lamp finials aqua. I also purchased a few bottles of water from TJMaxx to put on the buffet. The mirror above the buffet was U-G-L-Y. It was so ugly that I almost didn't buy it, but it was so cheap that I couldn't pass it up. I've got to get a before picture posted on here! But basically I painted it high-gloss white and mod-podged a piece of wrapping paper (TJMaxx) to the top (where it used to say "WELCOME" in gold sticky letters).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4PuDH-bbSwY/T2pIxaylJHI/AAAAAAAAFMU/eg1_x2EWWWI/s1600/open+house+028.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="241" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4PuDH-bbSwY/T2pIxaylJHI/AAAAAAAAFMU/eg1_x2EWWWI/s320/open+house+028.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IVsPPtb-7cI/T2pKDW3Iv9I/AAAAAAAAFMc/cTdePalA-c4/s1600/open+house+015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IVsPPtb-7cI/T2pKDW3Iv9I/AAAAAAAAFMc/cTdePalA-c4/s320/open+house+015.JPG" width="257" /></a>The bubble gum machine was an afterthought. I didn't bring it over til the day before Open House. It was collecting dust in the corner of my house, so I decided to bring out the spray paint and give it a little transformation. The goldfish added the right splash of color that I needed!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_CkHrekkT5g/T2pKXPq4GCI/AAAAAAAAFMk/qu74Api3quA/s1600/open+house+019.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_CkHrekkT5g/T2pKXPq4GCI/AAAAAAAAFMk/qu74Api3quA/s320/open+house+019.JPG" width="214" /></a>This is a view of the kitchen from the dining room. The rug was an $8.00 (!!!) score from Fred's. Yes, Fred's. I was getting tired of all the bright color, so a white kitchen seemed like a good idea, plus the splash of color really pops against the white.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The little curtains were actually tea towels from Target. $2.99 for both! Yippee!<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-StKhGpEVTnc/T2pKw4NK3eI/AAAAAAAAFMs/QTYh0_wxVSQ/s1600/open+house+018.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-StKhGpEVTnc/T2pKw4NK3eI/AAAAAAAAFMs/QTYh0_wxVSQ/s320/open+house+018.JPG" width="208" /></a></div><br />

I typed in "FREE KITCHEN PRINTABLES" on Pinterest, and all sorts of goodies popped up on the screen! The large frames were from the Dollar Spot at Target. The smaller frames were also from Target, but they weren't a dollar.</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--h9fJ5XUiiY/T2pMsqmCyyI/AAAAAAAAFNE/aIw5l77pAbU/s1600/open+house+029.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--h9fJ5XUiiY/T2pMsqmCyyI/AAAAAAAAFNE/aIw5l77pAbU/s320/open+house+029.JPG" width="155" /></a>The bulletin boards were another quick and easy DIY project that had a huge impact on the white kitchen. The bulletin boards were 50 cent yard sale purchases that were personalized with someone else's name. Perfect! I covered them with fabric from JoAnns and added a little aqua ribbon left over from my curtain project in the dining room. My eight year old added the felt aqua flower!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vo-HyvE8GTU/T2pM3Ax-yJI/AAAAAAAAFNM/uBrCQ3l50UE/s1600/more+o+and+b+020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vo-HyvE8GTU/T2pM3Ax-yJI/AAAAAAAAFNM/uBrCQ3l50UE/s320/more+o+and+b+020.JPG" width="160" /></a>I painted stripes in the hallway. A total time killer, but so very worth it! I also framed my AC thermostat (thanks , Pinterest, for the cute idea!)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-24LjS0N_nes/T2pNZiraRTI/AAAAAAAAFNU/v99q4KFqClU/s1600/more+o+and+b+009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-24LjS0N_nes/T2pNZiraRTI/AAAAAAAAFNU/v99q4KFqClU/s320/more+o+and+b+009.JPG" width="222" /></a>I painted the hall bath a pale blue, which is a nice soft contrast against the more harsh stripes in the hall. An orange bath mat and two orange towels help tie it all together. I opted for just a plain ole white shower curtain because the stripes in the hall were busy enough!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LDWXO15USEY/T2pNoTVCFdI/AAAAAAAAFNc/1886xC3phVU/s1600/more+o+and+b+008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LDWXO15USEY/T2pNoTVCFdI/AAAAAAAAFNc/1886xC3phVU/s320/more+o+and+b+008.JPG" width="213" /></a>Once again, Pinterest to the rescue. This time I typed "FREE BATHROOM PRINTABLES". I framed them in white Target frames. That little rubber ducky was one of my favorite purchases. I didn't know there was a blue and orange rubber duck in existence! It was ONE DOLLAR from the Dollar Tree.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AhryU9C8Lw0/T2pOaRMGihI/AAAAAAAAFNk/4YVtZI6zNWk/s1600/more+o+and+b+010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AhryU9C8Lw0/T2pOaRMGihI/AAAAAAAAFNk/4YVtZI6zNWk/s320/more+o+and+b+010.JPG" width="221" /></a></div><br />

It makes me happy! For one thing, it was a REALLY inexpensive bedroom. I already had the bed frames and coverlets. I scored the beds about 12 years ago from a yard sale. $25 for both! They've been painted every color under the sun, but I think I like them best in the plain gloss white. The orange furry pillows were from Homegoods. They look like they were made from a bath mat! The cool orange lamp was a Homegoods clearance purchase. The orange cross was a 50 cent thrift store purchase. The bedside table was from a yard sale (of course I sprayed it orange and used Hobby Lobby half-price knobs). I made the flags from leftover fabric and a couple of bandannas. The vintage Auburn felt hat on the bed was a $2.00 purchase from the thrift sore. About a dozen people offered to buy it during the Open House. It reminded everyone of the 70"s childhood! Again, I took advantage of the "Free Printables" via Pinterest. </div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rlAkBbpPNOw/T2pUQfQRK6I/AAAAAAAAFN0/aZuTWE9k2zY/s1600/Open+House+162.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rlAkBbpPNOw/T2pUQfQRK6I/AAAAAAAAFN0/aZuTWE9k2zY/s320/Open+House+162.JPG" width="217" /></a>I so wish I had a BEFORE pic of this dresser! It was really bad! I sanded it, filled holes, and sanded some more. Then primed it, painted it, and added those lovely knobs. I originally painted the top white, as well. But painting it orange (from the coffee table chevron project) was the right choice! And can you believe I found an aqua and orange tassel?! </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gBigq9nQgX4/T2pUa8JSIeI/AAAAAAAAFN8/WIArvdWrIas/s1600/Open+House+163.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gBigq9nQgX4/T2pUa8JSIeI/AAAAAAAAFN8/WIArvdWrIas/s320/Open+House+163.JPG" width="301" /></a>This picture is out of order and for some reason I'm having a hard time moving it. But it's a little niche in the hallway. I adore it! :) Trophy from thrift shop with Dollar Tree pencils. The bird is from the Target Dollar Spot. The little painting I sacrificed from my own house. :(</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zobV5yMcMR0/T2pWdfNJwvI/AAAAAAAAFOM/HaQexrVnVmo/s1600/Open+House+161.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zobV5yMcMR0/T2pWdfNJwvI/AAAAAAAAFOM/HaQexrVnVmo/s320/Open+House+161.JPG" width="320" /></a>This bedroom just kind of evolved, but I'm pleased with the end result. I painted the bedroom white before I even knew what I was going to do with it. I had a hard time finding something that I liked. I finally found that blue velvet chair at the thrift store for $40. It was in EXCELLENT condition, and it became my starting point. I found a set of six blue curtains at the thrift store ($3 per panel). I used one of them to cover a DIY headboard. I added white grosgrain ribbon to the headboard and to the curtain panels. Amd just an FYI - the sunburst mirror was only $34 from Home Depot (martha Stewart). It only comes in gold, but I sprayed this one silver. Loved the price tag on this mirror!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-95Bd1nejqfs/T2pXwPyqnxI/AAAAAAAAFOk/px9UCZQsTTs/s1600/open+house+022.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="272" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-95Bd1nejqfs/T2pXwPyqnxI/AAAAAAAAFOk/px9UCZQsTTs/s320/open+house+022.JPG" width="320" /></a>I like this little corner. The LOVE art was super easy and inexpensive. I used a can of silver spray paint to spray paint chipboard letters from Hobby Lobby, then I just used a glue gun to adhere them to a plain white canvas. EZ! The mirror was from my attic (sprayed the frame silver) and the shelf was from the playhouse outside! The silver tray on the wall was from the thrift, and the orange balls were clearance (50 cents) Halloween Target items. I'm not sure I'm going to keep them there. They look kind of puny. The lamp was in my attic but I had to purchase the shade (Lowe's). The white pillow was from Target. The silver box and over sized jacks were both from Ross.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ATq2pwtg5yk/T2pYCVrwyhI/AAAAAAAAFOs/IuCqQtYCH1k/s1600/open+house+023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ATq2pwtg5yk/T2pYCVrwyhI/AAAAAAAAFOs/IuCqQtYCH1k/s320/open+house+023.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7rTyJiLgIpQ/T2pYiUfSDOI/AAAAAAAAFO0/UX0HPGJK810/s1600/open+house+025.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7rTyJiLgIpQ/T2pYiUfSDOI/AAAAAAAAFO0/UX0HPGJK810/s320/open+house+025.JPG" width="150" /></a>These curtains were fun! After I added the white ribbon, I decided to try something that I thought about while I was pushing in the 1200 tacks in the foyer! I had seen some studded trim at my sister's house, and I so wanted some studded trim!! So i used regular thumb tacks (silver) from the Dollar Tree (300 for $1!) and pushed them through the ribbon. Each tack is one iPhone width apart. :) After I pushed the tack through, I used a hammer to gently bend the pointy part of the tack. It bent and kind of clamped down so it is securely attached. I wish I had a picture of the underside for you. This would have looked great with gold thumb tacks, but I already had the silver thing going on in the room. But really, the possibilities are endless. I'll be using this idea again!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mV4-NWlwzP8/T2pY0W2jVPI/AAAAAAAAFO8/27X2iMdO-dg/s1600/open+house+024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mV4-NWlwzP8/T2pY0W2jVPI/AAAAAAAAFO8/27X2iMdO-dg/s320/open+house+024.JPG" width="255" /></a></div><br />

It had been in her garage collecting dust, so I took it off her hands. I cleaned it up a bit, primed it, painted it, added new knobs. LOVE how it turned out so crisp and clean. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--TS-o2B30m8/T2pZUjU_fvI/AAAAAAAAFPM/EBdW8IoJMRM/s1600/open+house+020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--TS-o2B30m8/T2pZUjU_fvI/AAAAAAAAFPM/EBdW8IoJMRM/s320/open+house+020.JPG" width="214" /></a>Last but not least...the MASTER BEDROOM. I tried to make it a little more sophisticated than the rest of the house. The same friend who gave me the dresser from the previous room also GAVE(as in FREE) me this armoire. The books, picnic basket, globe, and metal stool were all thrift store purchases. The little oil painting was a $4.00 clearance purchase from Kirklands. The AU are cardboard letters from Hobby Lobby.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2W2Ck1KdIJM/T2py053EW-I/AAAAAAAAFPU/l8pFH02V730/s1600/more+o+and+b+007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2W2Ck1KdIJM/T2py053EW-I/AAAAAAAAFPU/l8pFH02V730/s320/more+o+and+b+007.JPG" width="301" /></a>Believe it or not, those cool geometric orange and brown window treatments were also a thrift store score. In fact, I think I bought those early-on and decided to do the room around these curtains. The lamps were from Homegoods, the quilt from TJMaxx (clearance). The painting above the bed was a major Kirkland's clearance item. It was only $40!</div><br />

It adds just the right amount of color and "pop" that I needed for this room!<br /><br /><br /><div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 268px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5706230821162370114" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-y4Q7VY54Fhg/TzCasu3ExEI/AAAAAAAAFFo/bnNr_sDARVQ/s400/DIY%2Bart" /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 281px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5706232305435862498" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EIRFykHAzp8/TzCcDINc5eI/AAAAAAAAFF0/C0wyBloAZw8/s400/DIY%2Bart%2B2" /> I purchased a large piece of canvas (30 x 40) from Hobby Lobby, along with several <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">sheets</span> of <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">cardstock sc</span>rapbook paper in various colors and textures (glitter, foil, etc). I used my 2 inch circle cutter to cut the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error">cardstock</span> into circles. I used a glue gun to attach the circles to the canvas. There was no method to my madness. In fact, my eight year old daughter helped with the placement of the circles. I've seen <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">similar</span> art like this on <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_4" class="blsp-spelling-error">pinterest</span>, but this is the first time I've seen it done with more than one color. While it's not a true campaign style dresser, for $15 it will work!! The top two drawers were missing (hence the price tag), but I wanted to put the television above it and put the DVD player in the area where the drawers would be.<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yOsElnhtlhw/Tyhh_bx882I/AAAAAAAAFFc/D23HA9cITP0/s1600/new%2Bhouse%2B022.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703916670481658722" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yOsElnhtlhw/Tyhh_bx882I/AAAAAAAAFFc/D23HA9cITP0/s400/new%2Bhouse%2B022.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6F7Y_1MNp9k/TyhaiFVQo1I/AAAAAAAAFFQ/F-1nkIffyiE/s1600/o%2Band%2Bb%2B083.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 268px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703908469658133330" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6F7Y_1MNp9k/TyhaiFVQo1I/AAAAAAAAFFQ/F-1nkIffyiE/s400/o%2Band%2Bb%2B083.JPG" /></a><br />My sweet husband cut a sheet of plywood and secured it to the inside of the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">piece</span>, making the "shelves" for the DVD player and docking station. I still want to add the right angle brass thingies to each corner, but for now, I really like how it turned out! I have lots of little projects to write about. Looking at this picture, you can see a few of the projects: the orange stripes in the hallway, the mod-<span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">podged</span> lampshade (with a cocktail napkin from Target), the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">DIY</span> art above the sofa, the chevron striped coffee table, the "side-of-the road" bar cart turned side table, the thrift store chair in the left of the pic, and the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error">DIY</span> free chair printable on the wall (hard to see in this pic!).<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r4zIfNoFrQ0/TyhWSqp6S4I/AAAAAAAAFEs/JWo2hMySjQU/s1600/o%2Band%2Bb%2B076.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 268px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703903806752443266" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r4zIfNoFrQ0/TyhWSqp6S4I/AAAAAAAAFEs/JWo2hMySjQU/s400/o%2Band%2Bb%2B076.JPG" /></a> I've been super busy, but like I told my husband, "If I die tomorrow, I had a blast on my last day!"<br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JnoFU5_iJpQ/TyhWSfobDVI/AAAAAAAAFEg/JvjILyLvaGw/s1600/o%2Band%2Bb%2B075.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 268px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703903803793411410" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JnoFU5_iJpQ/TyhWSfobDVI/AAAAAAAAFEg/JvjILyLvaGw/s400/o%2Band%2Bb%2B075.JPG" /></a><br />Stay tuned....<br /><br /><br /><div></div></div>Tiffanyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06841533662806868088noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6256027525643032773.post-56892108685883727252012-01-11T18:05:00.000-08:002012-01-11T18:22:09.820-08:00I won! I won!!<div>A couple of weeks before Christmas, <a href="http://www.simplyseleta.com/">Simply Seleta </a>hosted a <a href="http://www.simplyseleta.com/2011/12/marvelous-monday-giveaway/">giveaway.</a> Because I never win anything, it's amazing that I even entered the giveaway. But lo and behold, I won the darn thing!! Exciting stuff!!<br /></div><br /><div>In my comment on the giveaway, I said that I would use the table in my bathroom next to the bathtub and that I'd put a candle and a book on it. However, it was WAAAAY too cute to hide it in my bathroom. I decided that it needed a little more attention, so I put it in our family room and it's perfect there!!</div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 268px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5696563278450290546" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-w8gpvDKiLgc/Tw5CHryQb3I/AAAAAAAAFEU/DrsYnFeUK5A/s400/DSC_0318%2B%25282%2529.jpg" /><br /><br /><br /><div></div><br /><div>Thank you, Seleta, for such a generous giveaway and such a precious table/stool!!</div>Tiffanyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06841533662806868088noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6256027525643032773.post-86122761917481028932012-01-08T18:50:00.000-08:002012-02-02T19:45:49.681-08:00Free Gallery Wall Art thanks to PinterestThanks to <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">Pinterest</span>, most of the "art" in the "Orange and Blue House" was free. I searched "Free <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">Printables</span>" and all sorts of fun <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error">printables</span> popped up! They were all super easy to download and print from my home computer. I used cheap frames from Target (some were even in the Dollar Spot) to display the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-error">printables</span>. And voila - more inexpensive, easy, fun art. Lot's of happenings around here that I haven't told you about yet. In fact, the whole reason I haven't been blogging much lately is because of what I haven't even told you yet!! We have been super busy with a fixer-upper that we bought at the end of this past summer. It has been SO MUCH FUN fixing this little house and making her our very own. We won't be living in the house, but we'll be renting it out for Game Day weekends and such. Since we'll be renting it out, we needed to furnish it. That's where the real fun began!! We live in Auburn, Alabama and I decided to have a little fun with this house - I've decorated the entire house orange and blue. I can't wait to show it to you over the course of the next few weeks.<br /><br />Y'all know by now that I love a good thrift store score and I love some <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">DIY</span> art. One of the blogs that I stalk daily for style inspiration is <em><a href="http://http//www.simplyseleta.com/">Simply <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">Seleta</span></a></em>. Love her style! She had a great post the other day on an easy <em><a href="http://www.simplyseleta.com/2011/12/wednesday-white-project-news/"><span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error">DIY</span> art project</a></em>. Using her tutorial, I made my own art for the "Orange and Blue on Drake" house. Because Auburn fans are Auburn Tigers and their battle cry is "war Eagle", I chose a tiger and an eagle for my silhouette. I thought it turned out great and it was FREE because I used what I had as far as frames and background paper. For the background of the tiger, I tore out the page of the dictionary that had the word "tiger" on it. I think every word on that page began with tiger!<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BcmYeRtQgRY/TwZcChlMawI/AAAAAAAAFCc/bh59GP0FkcQ/s1600/DSC_0309%2B%25282%2529.jpg"></a><br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 304px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5695432487931961474" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-G68X0yj5xok/Two9rA1nYII/AAAAAAAAFDM/nTvx1l6fAjw/s400/DSC_0333%2B%25282%2529.jpg" /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><br />The picture below is an EAGLE (not a crow, as my eleven year old questioned!).<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /></div><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4Q2lKKlr_-M/TwZZK0HxbPI/AAAAAAAAFB4/ydxUsOURVX8/s1600/DSC_0311%2B%25282%2529.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 322px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5694336821181377778" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4Q2lKKlr_-M/TwZZK0HxbPI/AAAAAAAAFB4/ydxUsOURVX8/s400/DSC_0311%2B%25282%2529.jpg" /></a> Rather than printing out the image as <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-error">Seleta</span> suggested, I just enlarged the image on my computer screen and traced it with a piece of typing paper over the image on the screen. I then put my black sheet of paper under the white paper and cut out both images (the white and black) at the same time. Super easy. And pretty cute, too. Can't wait to show you more of this house. <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_4" class="blsp-spelling-error">Pinterest</span> and blogs have been a HUGE source of inspiration for this house!! </div><br /><div><br />Linking to <em><a href="http://savedbysuzy.blogspot.com/2012/02/suzys-house-party-29-link-up.html">Suzy's House Party </a></em></div><br /><div>and<em> </em><a href="http://somedaycrafts.blogspot.com/2012/02/whatever-goes-wednesday-102.html"><em>Someday Crafts<br /></em></a><br /></div><br /><div><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div>Tiffanyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06841533662806868088noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6256027525643032773.post-47779538568985529092011-10-15T17:59:00.000-07:002011-10-15T18:41:20.671-07:00#0 Days of Before and Afters - Day 2 - Hunting/Camo themed roomI adore this room! This room was an attic space that my friend turned into a bedroom. Because it was attic space, it has a cool sloped room and an area that we made into a fort. Mark and I installed green metal roofing from Lowe's to the slope of the ceiling to help achieve the look of a hunter's camp. I used burlap on the windows and doors of the fort/camp, as well as on the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">bedskirt</span>.<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2LwXbKaJ5XA/Tpozzm6xh3I/AAAAAAAAFAc/xzZiXN3JqK4/s1600/randomw1%2B499.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 268px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5663896443085227890" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2LwXbKaJ5XA/Tpozzm6xh3I/AAAAAAAAFAc/xzZiXN3JqK4/s400/randomw1%2B499.JPG" /></a> Here's a BEFORE shot of the space.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rJ4zq9ltDdc/TpozzUiZ37I/AAAAAAAAFAU/RWES3I8gIzE/s1600/456.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 268px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5663896438151176114" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rJ4zq9ltDdc/TpozzUiZ37I/AAAAAAAAFAU/RWES3I8gIzE/s400/456.JPG" /></a> <br /><div>I used a <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">camo</span> canopy from Academy Sports to make a canopy. This was CHEAP and EASY. I hung two cup hooks on the ceiling, then two nails at the top of the wall (where it meets the ceiling). I cut the canopy - didn't measure, just eye-balled it - and hooked it on the hooks and nails. So cute and really simple to do. I covered a piece of plywood (that was measured and cut at Home Depot) in a foam mattress cover and burlap. I attached a wire to the back of the plywood and hung it on the wall (like a picture) to make the headboard.</div><br /><div></div><br /><div>The burlap pillow was made with the freezer paper tutorial from earlier. Also super cheap and easy. I self-fringed the burlap so no money was spent on fringe.I love saving money!<br /><br /></div><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wUv-5Ew6qNc/TpouC097ehI/AAAAAAAAE_8/qIgZJSHjCpk/s1600/randomw1%2B500.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 268px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5663890107484830226" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wUv-5Ew6qNc/TpouC097ehI/AAAAAAAAE_8/qIgZJSHjCpk/s400/randomw1%2B500.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LYcyikK3wME/TpouCVbG8CI/AAAAAAAAE_w/3jobGAo4Qk8/s1600/randomw1%2B498.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 268px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5663890099017281570" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LYcyikK3wME/TpouCVbG8CI/AAAAAAAAE_w/3jobGAo4Qk8/s400/randomw1%2B498.JPG" /></a><br />The shadow box is waiting to be filled with outdoor goodies like rocks and junk! I'm <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">looooong</span> overdue for a <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">post</span>! So I'm going to make it up to you by posting <strong>30 Days of Before and Afters</strong> starting <em>today</em>! I've had lots of projects going on over the last few months. Hopefully you'll see that my lack of posting hasn't been because I haven't been working on projects! It's had more to do with the fact that I've had so many projects going on that I haven't had time to blog about them!<br /><br />I've been helping a friend decorate her children's bedrooms. It's a win/win situation for both of us. She's a photographer and has taken my kid's pictures in <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">exchange</span> for decorating her kid's bedrooms. Perfect!<br /><br />I'll be honest. When she first mentioned that her 4 year old wanted an Auburn/War Eagle room, I felt a little sick. :) Not only am I not an Auburn football fan, but there <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">colors</span> are navy blue and bright orange and, well, I felt challenged. However, shortly after that <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_4" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">conversation</span>, I was <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_5" class="blsp-spelling-error">eating</span> in <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_6" class="blsp-spelling-error">Zaxby's</span> (yes, the fried chicken finger place), and I couldn't keep my eyes off their decor, which is basically vintage <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_7" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">sports</span> <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_8" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">memorabilia</span>. <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_9" class="blsp-spelling-error">Lightbulb</span> moment for me. Right then and there I decided that we'd decorate her son's room with a vintage Auburn football theme.<br /><br />The first thing I did was to paint the walls in a <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_10" class="blsp-spelling-error">faux</span> finish to give them a slightly worn/<span id="SPELLING_ERROR_11" class="blsp-spelling-error">vintagey</span> feel. Then I found some blue and white quilted coverlets <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_12" class="blsp-spelling-error">for</span> the bed. But the stark white in the coverlets was too crisp against the worn walls. SO I dyed the coverlets and matching shams with <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_13" class="blsp-spelling-error">RIT</span> <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_14" class="blsp-spelling-error">dye</span>. I had never used <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_15" class="blsp-spelling-error">Rit</span> dye before, but my mother had some success in dying a coverlet before, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Not only was it super easy, it was super cheap and provided just the look that I needed!<br /><br />Then the real fun began as I started scouring flea markets, thrifts stores, and yard sales looking for vintage sports stuff. <img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 268px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5663326250822554530" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nhXXEnVIaGI/TpgtODNsU6I/AAAAAAAAE-A/Fz-TT3XBG6E/s400/randomw1%2B486.JPG" />The "WAR EAGLE" letters were the gold ones at Hobby Lobby that I simply spray-painted black. The lamps and shades were from Target. I spray painted the base of the lamps blue and added an ornage grosgrain ribbon to the bottom of the shade. I'll tell you about the chalkboard wall in the dormer window space in just a minute.<br /><br />The lockers below were found on ebay and spray painted black. LOVE them! Bewtweent he "WAR EAGLE" on the wall and the lockers, the room is adorable! I had a ton of fun scouring flea markets, thrigt stores, and yard sales looking for vintage sports memorabilia! The old megaphone and awesome old football were found at a local flea market. $10 for the megaphone and just a few dollars for the football! I fould several old folding stadium cuchions and hung one on the wall as a shelf.<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 268px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5663327956322820626" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0BClHGrOUgg/TpguxUspIhI/AAAAAAAAE_A/t2RjkD7TZUI/s400/randomw1%2B491.JPG" /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 268px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5663332518466657842" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mzajpmQ4rJA/Tpgy64AfnjI/AAAAAAAAE_Y/HBiTN_KP3bc/s400/randomw1%2B493.JPG" /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 268px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5663327967159105170" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eswKEla-5ig/Tpgux9ENtpI/AAAAAAAAE_Q/xrExYuwRPSM/s400/randomw1%2B494.JPG" />Those cute little football boys were a few dollars at the thrift store. They're from the early seventies, I think, and remind me so much of the Holly Hobby figurines that I had hanging on my wall as a child. LOVE!<br /><br /><br /><div><br /><div><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BC963IUExF4/TpguxDRmlcI/AAAAAAAAE-0/u_UjB2pMlSs/s1600/randomw1%2B490.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 268px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5663327951646004674" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BC963IUExF4/TpguxDRmlcI/AAAAAAAAE-0/u_UjB2pMlSs/s400/randomw1%2B490.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rtByfPTZdJ4/Tpguw9nAsGI/AAAAAAAAE-o/nNhGvT0XNNg/s1600/randomw1%2B489.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 268px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5663327950125183074" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rtByfPTZdJ4/Tpguw9nAsGI/AAAAAAAAE-o/nNhGvT0XNNg/s400/randomw1%2B489.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><div>A place for all of his AU caps!<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9DN4lteZr64/TpgtOmP3ssI/AAAAAAAAE-c/HJCbstBT3kY/s1600/randomw1%2B488.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 268px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5663326260226929346" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9DN4lteZr64/TpgtOmP3ssI/AAAAAAAAE-c/HJCbstBT3kY/s400/randomw1%2B488.JPG" /></a><br />This is the small dormer window space. I decided to paint the entire space with black chalkboard paint. I hired a friend (who has awesome handwriting!) to write the 2011-2012 football schedule on the wall. The four year old has strict instructions to NOT draw on <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_23" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">this</span> side of the wall, but he has complete <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_24" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">freedom</span> to "chalk it up" on the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_25" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">opposing</span> chalkboard wall!<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WfSQaWnjbco/TpgtOJcmgFI/AAAAAAAAE-Q/QQ5-LLdnzD4/s1600/randomw1%2B487.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 268px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5663326252495700050" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WfSQaWnjbco/TpgtOJcmgFI/AAAAAAAAE-Q/QQ5-LLdnzD4/s400/randomw1%2B487.JPG" /></a><br /><br />I know I just said that the "War Eagle" letters anf the lockers " make" the room, but the chalkboard wall "makes" it, too!<br /><br /><br /><div><br />Here are some BEFORE shots. I have thought of some other cute Valentine quotes that would be cute with these: "Valentine, you're a hoot!" , "Owl be your Valentine!" "<span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">Whooooo</span> loves you?! This may be my ALL TIME FAVORITE PROJECT I've ever completed and I did it all BY MYSELF!!! Using <a href="http://www.susieharrisblog.com/2010/02/diy-trumeau.html">Susie Harris' tutorial </a>as my guide, I finally (after 5 years of wanting to do this!) had the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">guts</span> to make my own Trumeau mirrors! And I couldn't be more pleased!! I L-O-V-E them!!<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TKPyz_4OXYI/AAAAAAAAEN0/TF_kWi4Y47M/s1600/DSC_2070.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 196px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5522662747246509218" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TKRwgh_pPKI/AAAAAAAAEOE/8fmygLZGgK4/s400/DSC_2066+(2).jpg" /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 268px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5522524543220866434" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TKPyz_4OXYI/AAAAAAAAEN0/TF_kWi4Y47M/s400/DSC_2070.jpg" /></a> 1. I went to Lowe's and purchased a sheet of 3/4' plywood. I had my measurements in hand and had the guy at Lowe's cut the wood for me. I also bought my moulding while there, as well as Liquid Nails for mirrors, and a $10 Miter Saw kit. . I primed and <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">painted</span> the wood as soon as I walked in the door.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TKPyzpqwC6I/AAAAAAAAENs/pmllKMlLz2E/s1600/DSC_1776+(2).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 268px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5522524537258773410" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TKPyzpqwC6I/AAAAAAAAENs/pmllKMlLz2E/s400/DSC_1776+(2).jpg" /></a> 2. I purchased a beveled mirror from <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error">Wal</span>-Mart. I think it was only $11.00. I applied the Liquid Nails to the back of the mirror as well as the plywood. I put some heavy stuff (like books and paint cans) on top of the mirror while I impatiently waited for the Liquid Nails to dry so that I could move on to the next step.<br /><br /></div><br /><div><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TKPx7zFN4QI/AAAAAAAAENk/E4zj-4nb0KE/s1600/DSC_1777+(2).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 268px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5522523577713025282" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TKPx7zFN4QI/AAAAAAAAENk/E4zj-4nb0KE/s400/DSC_1777+(2).jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TKPx7qOQMXI/AAAAAAAAENc/cnZyked1-Ss/s1600/DSC_1778.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 268px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5522523575335006578" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TKPx7qOQMXI/AAAAAAAAENc/cnZyked1-Ss/s400/DSC_1778.jpg" /></a><br />3. I was so anxious to finish this project that I forgot to take pics while working. However, Susie did...so take a look at hers. But i did just as she did. I didn't use a measuring tape, I just used a pencil and my eyeballs to mark the cuts on my moulding. The Miter Saw was very self explanatory, even to someone who has never used one. Of course, the miter saw is a hand-held saw, so it took a little while. However, I did this on the carpet of my daughter's bedroom (to give you an idea of how little you have to stress about this step!).</div><br /><div></div><br /><div>Then I <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">used</span> the same liquid nails to adhere the moulding to the edges of the mirror. I made some quick, easy, and completely inexpensive <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">cake stands</span> for each of the little cakes. I wrapped different sized cans from my pantry in scrapbook paper that I secured with a glue gun. Then I <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">spray painted</span> burner covers (you know...the round things that go over the burners on a <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-error">stovetop</span>) a coordinating color and glued trim on the edges. The burner covers were from The Dollar Tree. There were two in a pack. They had 'not so cute" country images on them (like ducks!). But a little <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_4" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">spray</span> paint can go a long way!<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJic5_mJFSI/AAAAAAAAEMc/Crr3ldWyfQs/s1600/DSC_1984+(2).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 268px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5519333863480431906" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJic5_mJFSI/AAAAAAAAEMc/Crr3ldWyfQs/s400/DSC_1984+(2).jpg" /></a><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJic5gZNPsI/AAAAAAAAEMU/eS5d0xKDa8Q/s1600/DSC_1924+(2).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 136px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5519333855104679618" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJic5gZNPsI/AAAAAAAAEMU/eS5d0xKDa8Q/s400/DSC_1924+(2).jpg" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJic5In2wPI/AAAAAAAAEMM/Qpvapkwr1i0/s1600/DSC_1995.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 268px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5519333848723669234" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJic5In2wPI/AAAAAAAAEMM/Qpvapkwr1i0/s400/DSC_1995.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJibD6WeaVI/AAAAAAAAEME/MFUmfwNMIts/s1600/DSC_1993+(2).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 268px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5519331834847979858" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJibD6WeaVI/AAAAAAAAEME/MFUmfwNMIts/s400/DSC_1993+(2).jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJibDaKRfBI/AAAAAAAAEL8/LLDOmRBeJk0/s1600/DSC_1992+(2).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 268px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5519331826206866450" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJibDaKRfBI/AAAAAAAAEL8/LLDOmRBeJk0/s400/DSC_1992+(2).jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJibC6BKewI/AAAAAAAAEL0/29iTx7Rq5b8/s1600/DSC_1990+(2).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 268px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5519331817578724098" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJibC6BKewI/AAAAAAAAEL0/29iTx7Rq5b8/s400/DSC_1990+(2).jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJiZVoAjdFI/AAAAAAAAELs/u5k1KY2VL8Y/s1600/DSC_1989+(2).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 268px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5519329940138587218" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJiZVoAjdFI/AAAAAAAAELs/u5k1KY2VL8Y/s400/DSC_1989+(2).jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJiZVR4DkcI/AAAAAAAAELk/wTYotk30Jio/s1600/DSC_1987+(2).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 251px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5519329934197363138" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJiZVR4DkcI/AAAAAAAAELk/wTYotk30Jio/s400/DSC_1987+(2).jpg" /></a> <div><div><br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJiPkdXaHeI/AAAAAAAAELM/hjX5HW1o7yA/s1600/DSC_1984+(2).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 268px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5519319199863414242" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJiPkdXaHeI/AAAAAAAAELM/hjX5HW1o7yA/s400/DSC_1984+(2).jpg" /></a><br />I thought they turned out kinda cute.<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJiPj4MY0CI/AAAAAAAAELE/ZN7nXoWUMpg/s1600/DSC_1983+(2).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 238px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5519319189885079586" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJiPj4MY0CI/AAAAAAAAELE/ZN7nXoWUMpg/s400/DSC_1983+(2).jpg" /></a><br /><div>This would be fun to do at Christmas for appetizers. I spray-painted them and hot-glued a 2 inch ribbon around the center. Fortunately, the room is big enough for two full size beds. I adored the bedroom that they shared together! However, recently they decided that they each wanted their own room. I moved one of the full sized beds into our "extra" bedroom for one of the girls, then re-painted and re-decorated the other room (the one below) into something really special.<br /><br />Here is a BEFORE shot:<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJdKF1xuZXI/AAAAAAAAEK8/-bALqGKuFwA/s1600/IMG_3835.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5518961332561274226" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJdKF1xuZXI/AAAAAAAAEK8/-bALqGKuFwA/s400/IMG_3835.jpg" /></a> And here are the afters:<br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJdKFuIT61I/AAAAAAAAEK0/hwL4hM3q3JM/s1600/DSC_2011+(2).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 296px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5518961330508524370" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJdKFuIT61I/AAAAAAAAEK0/hwL4hM3q3JM/s400/DSC_2011+(2).jpg" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJdKFNtAHaI/AAAAAAAAEKs/XEc4X4dUIl4/s1600/DSC_2012.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 268px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5518961321804045730" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJdKFNtAHaI/AAAAAAAAEKs/XEc4X4dUIl4/s400/DSC_2012.jpg" /></a><br /><div><br />The chaise lounge below doesn't exactly work in this room, but I tried to make it work by removing the existing trim and <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">gluing</span> some blue ribbon along the bottom edge. The raw <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">silk</span> blue pillow was a steal for 50 cents at a yard sale. The blue throw hides marker and glitter glue that are at the foot of the chair.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJdI5c49WWI/AAAAAAAAEKc/U1D5yqJP6qA/s1600/DSC_2014+(2).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 268px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5518960020210669922" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJdI5c49WWI/AAAAAAAAEKc/U1D5yqJP6qA/s400/DSC_2014+(2).jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJdI44v9zWI/AAAAAAAAEKU/Ou55Pi8vj5c/s1600/CSC_2017.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 328px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5518960010509274466" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TJdI44v9zWI/AAAAAAAAEKU/Ou55Pi8vj5c/s400/CSC_2017.jpg" /></a><br />I love this room as much as my little girl does! I must confess, however, that just about every idea for this room came straight from Janell at<a href="http://isabellaandmaxrooms.blogspot.com/2009/08/girls-dream-bedroom-complete.html"> <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error">Isabell</span> & Max Rooms</a>. I don't think you can tell from the pics, but the bulletin board has extra padding (batting, actually...2 layers) and is "puffy".<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 268px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494915941953571314" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TEHc75bGCfI/AAAAAAAAD_o/DKC7ggzyDyA/s400/DSC_1772+(2).jpg" /><br />I found this old, gold, plastic-framed mirror at the thrift store. I removed the mirror and spray painted the frame pink. Using the mirror as my "pattern", I cut a piece of foam board the same size as the mirror. I added to layers of batting and then fabric. I actually used duct tape to secure the fabric to the back of the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">foamboard</span>.<br /><br /><div><br /></div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 268px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494915937569008658" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TEHc7pFu7BI/AAAAAAAAD_g/c8KqO4uQSjI/s400/DSC_1167+(2).jpg" /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 224px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494915950609589106" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/TEHc8Zq2Y3I/AAAAAAAAD_w/PnDT1zq7bLo/s400/DSC_1771+(2).jpg" /><br />Because the bulletin board is "puffy", regular tacks wouldn't stay in place, so I used corsage pins as tacks. The truth is...I've continued to complete projects, but I've had little time to blog about them. I purchased a new camera back in February, and while the picture quality is 100 <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">x's</span> better than my old camera, <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">it</span> takes FOREVER to upload my pictures. I've continued to update my other blog, but I haven't had the time to consistently update both. But now that summer is here, I'm hoping I can find the time to update more frequently. Here's to hoping...........<br /><br />First up:<br /><br />My oldest daughter's "Coca Cola" themed birthday party! Super <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">EZ</span> and super cheap and I think it looks awesome!<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/S5cROoUDcMI/AAAAAAAADVw/93xycOIcWLI/s1600-h/DSC_0150+(2).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 321px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446841217365274818" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/S5cROoUDcMI/AAAAAAAADVw/93xycOIcWLI/s400/DSC_0150+(2).jpg" /></a>Yesterday I decided that I wanted to upholster a headboard. But I never made it Lowe's before school was out, and I hated to take the kids to Lowe's with me <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">because</span> it was such a gorgeous day for them to play outside. I was hoping that I could find a leftover piece of plywood in the basement or in my husband's shed. I couldn't find a <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">piece</span> of plywood, but I found something better! I had a half sheet of insulation board left over from <a href="http://latdah.blogspot.com/2009/10/whimsical-frames.html"><strong>this project</strong></a>. I wondered if it would work as a headboard, then decided just to dive in head first.<br />I measured the board and measured the bed and decided that I had just enough board to make it work.<br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/S5cROOQ_5II/AAAAAAAADVo/SbaFlbdEwGA/s1600-h/DSC_0159+(2).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 268px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446841210373137538" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/S5cROOQ_5II/AAAAAAAADVo/SbaFlbdEwGA/s400/DSC_0159+(2).jpg" /></a><br />The great thing about insulation board is that you can cut it easily with a utility knife or other razor blade. I wrapped the insulation board in batting (which I duck taped to the back of the board!). Then I wrapped it in the fabric (which is actually a shower curtain from Target for $9.99). (By the way, a sheet of insulation board, which is 4' x 9', is about $7.00). My staple gun quit working about a third of the way into the project. I think this was divine intervention <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">because</span> the insulation board really isn't dense enough to held the staples in place very well. No worries...I plugged in the low temp glue gun and went to work.<br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/S5cRNqh2kwI/AAAAAAAADVg/LnAmgqSlpjw/s1600-h/DSC_0158+(2).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 268px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446841200780153602" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/S5cRNqh2kwI/AAAAAAAADVg/LnAmgqSlpjw/s400/DSC_0158+(2).jpg" /></a><br /><br />Don't let that curve intimidate you! I used the top of a hat box to make a circular mark on the top corners of the board.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/S5cP-J71OjI/AAAAAAAADVY/MuFMowcn3wY/s1600-h/DSC_0161+(2).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 268px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446839834821081650" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/S5cP-J71OjI/AAAAAAAADVY/MuFMowcn3wY/s400/DSC_0161+(2).jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/S5cP9xY9_5I/AAAAAAAADVQ/6jG1l8zsxI0/s1600-h/DSC_0162+(2).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 268px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446839828232404882" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/S5cP9xY9_5I/AAAAAAAADVQ/6jG1l8zsxI0/s400/DSC_0162+(2).jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/S5cP9Rc8DzI/AAAAAAAADVI/PCXj3M6PcO4/s1600-h/DSC_0158+(2).jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 268px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446839819659120434" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_R2OpvT3990s/S5cP9Rc8DzI/AAAAAAAADVI/PCXj3M6PcO4/s400/DSC_0158+(2).jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br />After I taped and glued the batting and fabric in place, I used a ruler to draw a thin pencil line around the border of the "headboard".
